Myopopone

Myopopone castanea is a member of the Amblyoponinae subfamily of ants. Most species of this subfamily are vampire ants that feeds on the juices of punctured wounds on the larvae. In a healthy nest this does not appear to cause serious harm to the larvae but in a stressed nest where the numbers of larvae might be few, numbers of larvae successfully becoming pupae is considerably impacted.
