Vollenhovia sp

Vollenhovia are small ants with workers measuring between 2 millimeters and 6 millimeters (largest workers) that mostly make their nests inside the trunks and branches of trees.

In many polymorphic ants, the major workers aside from being larger than the minor (and also the median) workers also commonly express other differentiating morphological attributes such as having larger heads and correspondingly larger mandibles. In Vollenhovia ants this morphological feature is not significant with the major and median workers more or less just a larger scale version of the minor workers.

This species is monomorphic.
