Polyrhachis bihamata

Polyrhachis bihamata is closely related to Polyrhachis ypsilon. Both these species have very prominent spines. The spines on the petiole are especially pronounced.

Polyrhachis bihamata is more bronze in color while Polyrhachis ypsilon is golden. In Polyrhachis ypsilon the petiole node's spines separate into 2 hooked ends right from the middle whereas in this species the separation is nearer the ends.

Polyrhachis bihamata at 10 millimeters TL (total length) is also noticeably smaller than Polyrhachis ypsilon at 15 centimeter (TL).

    1. Throughout Malaysia and all the north to Thailand, in more heavily wooded or forested region as these are arboreal ants and need a fairly good tree coverage to support them.
