Leptogenys sp

This midsize ant is one of the larger Leptogenys species from this location measuring at 9 millimeters. Typical of the Leptogenys genus, this species is monomorphic. Aggressive and with a painful sting this species certainly fits the bill as a voracious army ant. Leptogenys are classified under army ants. Gyne of Leptogenys similar with those of Dorylus do not have wings at all and are obviously flightless unlike those of most other ants genera where the alate gyne take wings in nuptial swarms.

This species has a slightly smaller (less bulky) head in relation to its body (and overall) size when compared against Leptogenys sp3 document in this blog.
