Pheidole sp

The Pheidole genus is one of the most species rich among Myrmicinae ants but the greater majority of the species are found only in forest and very heavily wooded areas. Generally the genus has three main phenotype sizes. Of these are where the major workers are around 5 mm (i.e. 4 to 6 mm) and minor workers around 3mm; the major workers are around 3 mm  and the minor workers around 2 mm; and the majors workers are below 2.5 mm and the minor workers below 1.5 mm.

This species, Pheidole sp35 according to the those collected by this blog, is from this context of the larger size phenotype. This species also has the among the largest size difference between the major workers (5 mm) and minor workers (2 mm).
